Authentic, flavorful, and made with genuine ORIGANUM SYRIACUM. While they may all belong to the same perennial family, true za'atar is not what we commonly call "thyme," "oregano," or any other filler ingredient that even some Lebanese restaurants substitute. This is the original Biblical hyssop, as far as we know, renowned for its numerous health benefits, particularly for gut health. You can use it for virtually anything—salads, oil and balsamic bread dips, and more. Notice the fresh, vibrant green color. Notice the aroma when your package arrives, even before opening it. If you want the authentic original grown in the hills and valleys of Syria and Lebanon, this is it. There is nothing like it.
Don't sleep on this! It's SO good! I have not had green zaatar before, but I have eaten regular zaatar seasoning before - honestly this green variation can definitely stand on it's own without riding it's brothers name. It's NUTTY from the sesame seeds and it's herby like regular zaatar but with a strong hint of fresh citrus. It was really delicious! I am so impressed - I think I said out loud "yum" when I took my first taste test. The sumac is delicious, and has a great tang that just screams put me in olive oil. It's fragrant with thyme and additive with sesame seeds. I had a little extra salt, and get some oil out for bread and dipping - yum! You can also roast vegetables or cook meat with it although I have not tried these food methods yet. It's like if lime zest and zaatar had a baby, the zest and herbal sumac would cut through a lot of fatty heavy food. Very fresh, especially the nuttiness - a must have in any Middle Eastern kitchen.
I was really happy to try this za’atar seasoning, and it did not disappoint. The taste and smell are very authentic and remind me of traditional Middle Eastern za’atar. As soon as you open the container, you can smell the fresh herbs and spices.I tried it with olive oil and bread, and the flavor was exactly what I expected—rich, earthy, and well balanced. It also works great sprinkled on salads, eggs, or roasted vegetables. The blend tastes natural and not overly salty.I also like that it’s made with 100% natural ingredients and has no MSG. The packaging keeps the seasoning fresh, and the quantity is good for regular use.Overall, this is a very good za’atar blend with a traditional flavor and aroma. If you enjoy Middle Eastern spices, this is definitely a nice one to have in the kitchen
We had such culinary adventures in Turkey when we visited late last year! This Green Zaatar means we can relive some of the memories. Thyme is the initial fragrance, but the taste is amplified with lemon and sesame, the flavors play off one another making this spice useful in many applications. We bought chicken thighs and marinated them and used this spice. They cooked up nicely, paired with pita and some homemade tzadziki sauce were excellent. I can't wait to try this spice with other dishes.
The flavor tastes fresh and authentic, and you can tell it’s made with quality ingredients. It has that classic lemony, zesty kick with a delicious sesame taste that makes every dish more flavorful.I especially love adding this to kubdas (Mediterranean style kabob). It gives the meat such a bright, herby depth and really enhances the overall flavor. It also works great sprinkled over olive oil with bread, on roasted veggies, or mixed into yogurt.I appreciate that it’s 100% natural with no MSG, and the taste truly feels like traditional Middle Eastern za’atar. If you enjoy Mediterranean flavors with a tangy, nutty twist, this one is definitely a must have in your spice cabinet.
I picked up this zaatar blend to add some Middle Eastern flavors to my cooking, and it's been a nice addition to the spice cabinet. The mix has a pleasant tanginess that really comes through - slightly acidic in that good way that makes your taste buds perk up. It's got that traditional blend of herbs and toasted sesame seeds you'd expect, and the quality seems solid with no artificial stuff thrown in.What I like about it is how versatile it's been. I've sprinkled it on everything from labneh to hummus, and it works great as a simple dip when mixed with olive oil for pita chips. The flavor really shines when you use it in cooking too - I roasted some cauliflower and broccoli with olive oil and this zaatar, and they turned out really well. The seasoning held up to the heat and added a nice depth of flavor without being overwhelming. The 5.3oz container gives you plenty to work with, and since a little goes a long way, it should last a while in most kitchens. If you're looking to branch out into Mediterranean cooking or just want something different to jazz up vegetables and dips, this does the job well. It tastes authentic and fresh, which isn't always easy to find in pre-made spice blends.
This za'atar is really good. I'm not sure what makes it green versus regular za'atar. It's tangy and gives a very good flavor to food. It threw it on shrimp and rice tonight, and it added a good flavor. I don't know why za'atar always makes me think of tomatoes, but it's acidic and citrusy and adds a lot of flavor. I love flavor and spices and usually add a ton to everything that I cook. My boyfriend really loves Mediterranean style foods, and he's loving thus on vegetables right now.I am confused by it saying gluten free but processed in a facility with wheat. I am hoping that it's fully gluten free, like a lot of stuff is labeled when gluten free but not safe for wheat allergy. I guess we'll see over time. If there's any gluten in the bag, I'll end up sick. The price is maybe a little high, but not a lot more than other za'atar that I've purchased; plus you do get a lot in this bag. I expect that this will last me a long time, so I'm glad to have it.
